Hello! I am Dr. Robert Nesbitt, Jr., LCSW, and founder of The Dover Counseling Center. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 20 years of experience in the human services field. I am an alumnus of Simmons University (’24), New York University (’06), and Long Island University (’01). I have a Doctorate in Social Work and possess over 15 years of clinical experience working with diverse populations. I specialize in culturally adaptive cognitive behavior therapy tailored to meet the needs of individuals with intersectional identities. My expertise includes providing support to individuals coping with complex traumas, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), anxiety, and depression. I offer services to late adolescents (ages 17 and older), adults, and seniors. Additionally, I have extensive experience working with individuals who are intellectually and developmentally disabled. As a spiritual antiracist, I am also dedicated to advocating for religious, marginalized, and the LGBTQ+ communities.
I currently offer both in-office and HIPAA-compliant telehealth services. We understand that these are challenging times, and many are experiencing heightened levels of anxiety and sadness. These emotions can often impact our relationships and may require professional assistance. Rest assured, you are in good hands. In our safe haven of therapeutic support, you will never feel judged or criticized. Our fees are affordable, and we are committed to being flexible to accommodate your needs. Please feel free to reach out to schedule your first appointment. I look forward to speaking with you.

Licensed Master Social Worker/Therapist, New Haven, CT, 06513 | Psychology Today
Hi! I am a Licensed Masters Social Worker in the state of Connecticut and New York. I recognize that social stressors, socioeconomic issues, balancing work/family life, and relationship issues can impact one’s mental health. As a result, I was inspired to partner with others to support them on their journeys to emotional and mental well-being. I have worked in the social service field for 20 years. I received my Master’s in Social Work from Stonybrook University (’18) and a Bachelor of Science in Human Services from New York City College of Technology (’10).
I have experience with individuals with developmental disabilities, various mental health disorders, children with developmental delays and/or behavioral issues, as well as teens struggling with self-esteem and mental health issues. I practice from a Humanistic Approach, utilizing Solution Focused Brief Therapy, among other therapies. I also subscribe to the Strengths and Empowerment Based Perspective. Additionally, I utilize Behavior Activation to help those I support recognize how replacing behaviors can reduce feelings of loneliness, anxiety, and depression.
I welcome those seeking support from an active listener to help balance the stressors of everyday life. It is important to me to dispel the stigma and negative perceptions surrounding seeking mental health care, particularly among vulnerable populations. If you are reading this, congratulations on taking a step towards wellness.
“You may have a more grown up body and more life experience but you are every bit as precious. Love yourself as if you are the most precious thing in the world. Because you are.”
